I typically do my grocery shopping at Whole Foods but now I have even more of a reason: I need to get all my gluten-free goods. Thankfully, my littlest brother came with me to ease my pain of navigating the aisles and watching the cart as I ran back to grab something. I had two goals in mind. First, to stock up on meals and goodies. Second, to get the ingredients for some chocolate-chip cookies! Wahoo :)
My grocery list vs. what I ended up purchasing was much longer than I anticipated. Note: I already had a bunch of vegetables and meat in my fridge so just needed to revamp the carb side!
- Tinkyada rice pasta (2 bags – 1 penne, 1 swirl)
- Van’s waffles (blueberry and cinnamon french toast)
- Rice cakes
- Unsweetened applesauce
- Chocolate chips
- Coconut oil
- Rainforest granola
- One pound quinoa
- One bag of brown rice
- Udi’s white bread
- Udi’s pizza crust
- Agave nectar
- Red Mill’s
- Gluten Free All-Purpose Flour
- Xanthax Gum
Having read through half of the G-Free Diet, I am even more aware of food labels than ever! Interestingly enough, Whole Foods has labels on its items that are definitely gluten-free, but for those not necessarily labeled, you have to use your judgment. Since I don’t have celiac disease, I may pick up something that does not necessarily say “gluten-free” and read through the ingredients, but for now I’m trying to stick close to the g-free label. I’ll give a run down of items to avoid in another post.
To reward my brother for spending way too long at the store, I decided to make some pizza! One with gluten and one without. We got g-free pizza sauce (gotta love Rao’s!), mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni. Udi’s was basically a thin-crust pizza which is what I normally like anyway!
